KENSINGTON, P.E.I. — Jason Gallant is ready and excited for the next chapter in his budding coaching career.

The 31-year-old Gallant is the new head coach of the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild major under-18 hockey team.

“Coaching is something since I stopped playing hockey 11 years ago that I’ve been working towards and preparing myself for. I’m really happy that I am able to do it at this point in my life and career. It’s a perfect opportunity and a great organization. I’m super excited to get going. It’s an awesome feeling.”

Gallant replaces Kyle Dunn, who stepped down after seven years as head coach following the 2020-21 season.

Gallant has spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach under the Billy McGuigan-coached Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals’ junior A team.

With the Caps currently involved in the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) playoffs, Gallant will continue to fulfil his obligations with the team.

“It’s been two different years with the Caps with the shutdowns and pauses with COVID-19,” said Gallant, who played with the team from 2007 to 2011. “I have learned a lot working under Billy, and those two years made me a better coach and prepared me for the role I am taking on.”
